The Gifford School community emphasizes well-being, trust, respect, and accountability so that students can learn in a safe and nurturing environment. We respect individual differences, and everyone is a valued member of the community. We build a sense of community in many ways from school traditions like our Thanksgiving Feast to adventure-based challenges like our annual hikes, to various enrichment opportunities, student clubs, and sports.
In addition, each program comes together weekly for Town Meeting in which students are encouraged to accept responsibility for the shared environment and a growing sense of caring for fellow students and staff. Town meetings are a forum for openly discussing ideas, sharing information, and recognizing students and staff for their contributions to the community.
"When our students feel accepted and supported, they are able to make great gains not only in academics, but also in social relationships which empowers them to support others in the community."
~ Bob McArdle, Executive Director
