High School Team

HS Team Leaders

Stephen Castles, Assistant Principal of the High School, has been with Gifford for 18 years in roles of increasing responsibility. He's been an integral member of the team supporting our high school students and their families daily.

Becky Freedman, LICSW
joined Gifford School in August 2017 as a High School Clinician. Since receiving her MSW from Simmons College in 2007, Becky has worked with children and families in a range of clinical settings.

Favorite thing about working at Gifford?
I am impressed by the strong multidisciplinary team here at Gifford School. No two students are identical, and Gifford School values these differences. Everyone collaboratively works together to meet the individual needs of the students. It’s extremely rewarding to have the opportunity to celebrate a success that happened during the school day, regardless of how big or small, with students and their families.

Samantha Resnick, LICSW has been with Gifford for 9 years as a Clinician in the High School. Sam received her MSW from the University of Michigan and has worked in a number of different settings including an outpatient mental health clinic where she helped develop an adolescent Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) program, an inpatient unit, and a hospital emergency room.

Favorite thing about working at Gifford?
One of the most important lessons that I have learned at Gifford is that through struggle and hardship comes growth and renewal.  I am perpetually amazed and inspired by watching Gifford students learn about themselves, develop new strategies and overcome challenges, and by the fortitude of families throughout that process. There is nothing more poignant than attending graduation in June and watching students walk across that stage as more competent, insightful young adults.

John Sanford, Head Teacher , MEd has been working at the Gifford School for 16 years.  John began his career at Gifford as an assistant teacher and has worked as an assistant to the reading specialist, an academic support teacher, and most recently as Lead English Teacher in the High School.  John enjoys working closely with teachers, students, and student’s families to help facilitate individual learning goals, create challenging academic curriculum, and provide the best educational opportunities for all students.

Favorite thing about working at Gifford?
My favorite thing about working at Gifford is the amazing sense of community here.  I greatly value the courage of the students, the dedication of the staff, and the support of families who want the very best for their children.  The Gifford School is a community that believes in the potential of everyone to grow and encourages the development of life-long learners.
