Food Service Manager / Culinary Instructor
Opening for the 2021-2022 School Year

Qualifications:

  • Food service experience

  • Experience working in a school setting or with children preferred

  • DESE approved Teacher license in Culinary Arts

  • Excellent organizational skills 

  • Understanding of special education milieu

  • Ability to work both collaboratively and independently

Schedule:

  • 11 months/full time

  • Salary and benefits, including vacation time, determined by the Executive Director 

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and manage food service program as defined by administration

  • Manage adult kitchen staff

  • Prepare menus; order food and supplies

  • Work with supervisor regarding establishing kitchen policies for staff and students

  • Ensure that the kitchen and food program adhere to all relevant Department of Health and Department of Education regulatory requirements

  • Work with secretarial staff to coordinate daily lunch forms

  • Coordinate the preparation of daily breakfast, snacks and lunches

  • Plan, prepare, and coordinate food for special meetings, occasions, conferences, field trips, and other events, as needed; work with designated school personnel to coordinate some of these events

  • Help to develop and implement culinary arts curriculum for the Career and Technical Education (CATE) Program

  • Teach and coordinate the efforts of the students in the CATE Program as it pertains to Culinary Arts

  • Keep up-to-date records of student grades/performance

  • Attend CATE meetings

  • Ensure safety and proper working order of kitchen 

  • Maintain a clean and organized environment

  • Maintain cleanliness of uniforms

  • Respond to student behaviors in the classroom and throughout the milieu by utilizing Gifford behavioral systems

  • Within the context of your position at Gifford and as the job evolves, be open to new ideas, opportunities and responsibilities assigned by your supervisor and/or the Executive Director

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to participate in outdoor physical activities to include kneeling, stooping and lifting up to 25 pounds
